Biotech Drives Innovation

Healthcare

Biotech has lead to the development of insulin, the growth hormone, molecular identity and diagnostics, gene therapies and vaccines such as hepatitis B are some of the milestones of biotechnology and its alliance with genetic engineering.

Agriculture

Food science has been able to shape foods in order to bring out desirable traits, including characteristics such as disease and drought-resistant plants, leaner meat and enhanced flavor and nutritional quality of foods. Biotech has also produced animal-free protein sources such as synthetic meat.

Energy

Biofuels have been developed thanks to biotechnology, along with other sustainably produced materials, chemicals and fuel cells. Advances in biotech have already led to achievements in reaching cellulosic ethanol cost-reduction targets and will help accelerate biomass and algae-derived hydrocarbon fuels.

Environment

Industrial biotechnology can save energy and significantly reduce CO2 emissions. It involves the use of enzymes and microorganisms to make biobased products in a diverse variety of sectors. Biotech is also used to produce more sustainable plastics and chemicals that are both manufactured and repurposed in ways that defy current industry pollutant practices.
