Our Mission

Our mission at BADASS Labs is to provide the maximum support for our members to achieve their scientific milestones as quickly as possible. Our ecosystem redefines startup success by equipping science-based companies to have the strongest possible start. We nurture new companies with the facilities and know-how they need to grow.

Our Philosophy

We started with the question, “What would a biotech founder want in a wet lab space?” BADASS Labs Founder and CEO, David Kiewlich, started out as a biotech entrepreneur himself in search of wet lab space. What he found was that the Bay Area biotech start up sector was being vastly underserved with the type of lab and office space necessary to thrive. Vacancy was so low, that they are forced to go into spaces that are suboptimal. Working in those environments puts an incurable amount of strain on these companies. With BADASS Labs, our aim is to support startups to create a viable product so that they can go out and get the funding they need. 

 

 

Ultimately, our goal is to encourage our companies to reach the marketplace. That’s how ideas start to make changes and improve the human condition. Our goal isn’t to grow our portfolio, our goal is to change science and change the world. We do not want to see an enormous failure rate, as behind every one of those failures is an idea that has been lost. We want to encourage our companies’ ideas to succeed.

 

 

 

In contrast to traditional biotech accelerators, we don’t require you to stay for a minimum or maximum of time, we do not have a high minimum of square footage, and we do not tie you into a high cost, high risk situation. As a 501c3, we never take equity and we never entangle IP. We are not incentivized to run through as many companies as possible. We are here to foster you, not push you out the door. When you move up and on to bigger spaces is up to you.

You Asked We Answer

We have two locations in Alameda, located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our original location is at 1010 Atlantic Ave, Suite 102. Our second location is at 1650 Harbor Bay Parkway, Suite 220. 

We have space for companies as small as one person and up to more than 20. Our goal is to support you as long as you’d like to be in the space.

We have flexible leases that have a minimum of three months. Past that, you are welcome to stay at BADASS Labs as long as you’d like. We do not limit the amount of time it will take to see your company find success.

You will need insurance to have policies covering workers comp and liability for your employees. We recommend members get certain permits they need to do their lab work, but we will work with you. We have the necessary permits to get you started right away.

BADASS Labs functions as a non-profit organization that takes zero equity in your business or makes any claims to any of your work produced onsite. We are here purely to support your needs and to help to grow.

We have accounts with dozens of suppliers with whom we provide purchasing assistance, facilities maintenance, package delivery, conference rooms, a well stocked break room, consultations with legal and business professionals, and more.
